The ACCME is delighted to announce the Menu of New Criteria for Accreditation with Commendation—the mechanism for recognizing and celebrating organizations that excel as continuing medical education (CME) providers. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted a revised FAQ on its Open Payments website clarifying that faculty who teach in accredited CME that has received commercial support and have received honoraria are not subject to Open Payments reporting. Continuing medical education participants regularly hear from experts in disease states and therapies—but rarely from the actual patient. Here’s what patients can bring to the CME table. Take a deep dive into the Accreditation Council for CME’s 2015 Annual Report on the world of medical education providers. The American Board of Internal Medicine recently revised their Medical Knowledge Assessment Program Guide to reduce the number of annual audits of CME activities entered into PARS each year, in addition to including examples of approaches providers can use to evaluate the impact of their activities on learners’ knowledge, strategies, skills, performance, and/or patient outcomes, and adds detail to the description of peer review (see ABIM4 in the Program Guide). Continuing Medical Education organizations can now explore participation in the ABMS Multi-Specialty Portfolio Program™ as part of a new, one-year pilot. The pilot allows these organizations to offer their physicians one-year access to Portfolio Program benefits without committing to becoming full participating sponsors. |
