Registration Now Open for CME that Counts for ABA MOCA 2.0, ABP MOC

11/3/2016

Picture
The ACCME is pleased to announce that all accredited CME providers in the ACCME System now have the option to register their activities for the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program® MOCA 2.0® Part 2 (Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment) and the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment for MOC Part 2. Activities are eligible for registration if they meet the specific requirements of the ABA or ABP.

The ACCME, ABA, and ABP worked together to create a more streamlined and flexible CME for MOC process, based on the needs and requests of our community of CME providers and board-certified physicians. With this collaboration, CME providers will be able to expand the number and diversity of accredited CME activities that count for MOC. We thank the CME providers who participated in the beta testing. Their valuable feedback helped us to develop educational tools to support CME providers’ use of this process.

Overview
  • CME providers are no longer required to submit applications to ABA and ABP for activity approval. Instead, accredited CME providers are able to use the ACCME Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS) to register activities for ABA MOCA 2.0 and ABP MOC.
  • As part of the activity registration process, providers attest to compliance with ABA or ABP requirements, agree to collect the required individual participant completion data and submit it via PARS, agree to abide by ABA/ABP/ACCME requirements for use of the data, agree to allow ACCME to publish data about the activity on ACCME’s website, and agree to comply with requests for information about the activity if it is selected for an audit by the ACCME.
  • The process is available for all CME providers in the ACCME System,including state-accredited providers, providers directly accredited by the ACCME, and providers that have received Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education™.
  • These collaborations offer additional choices but no new ACCME requirements. CME providers in the ACCME System have the option—but are not required—to offer accredited CME that meets ABA or ABP MOC program requirements and to submit activity and participant completion data through PARS to ABA or ABP.
  • There is no fee for CME providers to participate in this process.
  • These collaborations are in addition to the collaboration between the ACCME and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Accredited CME providers are encouraged to continue to register activities for ABIM’s MOC program.
  • For CME providers serving anesthesiologists, the ABA will provide data related to its diplomates’ knowledge gaps, which could serve as valuable information to assist providers in evaluating their current offerings and exploring opportunities for new activities.
