Among the provisions in the proposal are incentives to reward physicians for engaging in certain "clinical practice improvement activities" (CPIA). While doctors and CME providers are well aware that continuing medical education is one of the most effective methods of improving clinical practice, CMS' proposal fails to recognize CME as a measurement category for CPIA.
