CMEPALOOZA SPRING AGENDA

9 AM ET

Breakfast Session Sponsored by Projects In Knowledge
How Digital Platforms, Artificial Intelligence, and Cognitive Learning Are Transforming the CME Learning Experience
“Giving learners the education that they need” is a common mantra among CME providers of all sorts. Adaptations are made to incorporate the best and brightest of new technology into our programming, with the usual fits and starts. One of the most promising trends of recent years is the evolution of artificial intelligence and cognitive learning that has allowed for programming that is more adaptable than traditional CME. This session will take a look at the ways in which these technologies are being incorporated into current educational initiatives and the possibilities they may allow for in the future.
Moderator:
Robert Stern, CEO/President, Projects In Knowledge

Two Truths and a Lie: An In-Depth Look at the New ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education
The ACCME was founded in 1981. Graham McMahon is currently the president and CEO of the ACCME. Derek Warnick was knighted by King Hieronius of Liechtenstein in 2018.
Two of these are true. One is a lie. (Don’t think too hard)
We’ll be challenging your knowledge a bit more than this in this session that will examine what is (and isn’t) included within the ACCME’s new Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education. We’ll also talk through the impact that some of the more important proposed changes may have on your CME department.
Moderator:
Sheryl A. Corey, Director of Continuing Medical Education, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Panelists:
Tom Weber, Associate Director of Continuing Medical Education, University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine
Rokeena Williams, CMP, CHCP, Special Projects Manager, Stanford University School of Medicine

Making Your Target Audience Your Outcomes Audience: Partnering to Share Our Value
During this session, we will discuss strategies that rely on partnerships to share the CE impact story. We will examine ways to partner with associations to share the value of CE beyond the usual stakeholders to the wider healthcare industry, including our learners.
Moderator:
Lauren Welch, Vice President, Outcomes and Accreditation, Med Learning Group
Panelists:
TBD

1 PM ET

The Masked Provider
Session Sponsored by ACHL

No, there are no Llama or Pina Colada or Surfer Dude costumes to hide under (c’mon, we have a limited budget here). But thanks to the wonders of modern technology, we’ll be able to “disguise” our special guests who will each represent a different member of the CME community. After a brief voice-modified introduction, panelists will ask each “masked provider” (or supporter) questions that may help identify who they are. Once “unmasked,” each special guest will discuss the ways in which their organization has evolved over the course of the last 12 months and answer related questions from the panelists and audience.
Host:
Nina Taylor, Vice President of Learning and Education, American Society for Radiation Oncology
Panelists:
Marc Crawford, CEO, Array
Allison Kickel, CHCP, Vice President, Education Strategy, Integrity Continuing Education
Riaz Baxamusa, CHCP, MBA, Associate Director, IME Grants, Astellas Pharma
Lisa Wray, Vice President, Peer Audience
2 PM ET
Afternoon Snack Session Sponsored by Physicians’ Education Resource

Would You Rather: Grantor/Provider Edition
Would you rather always be 10 minutes late or always be 20 minutes early? Would you rather be covered in fur or covered in scales? Would you rather your only mode of transportation be a donkey or a giraffe? These are all questions that will not be included in this edition of Would You Rather. Instead, we will ask our panel of education providers and grantors to opine on CE industry-related questions such as: Would you rather have only RFPs or only unsolicited applications? Would you rather try a new educational format or stick with the tried and true? Questions that, like choosing the donkey rather than the giraffe as your only means of transportation, are perhaps less exciting but are immensely more practical.
Moderator:
Phil Talamo, President, Physicians’ Education Resource
Providers:
Stephen Chavez, Educational Strategist, Prova Education, Inc.
Jim Palatine, President, Pharmacy Times Continuing Education
Melissa Wiles, VP, Educational Strategy, Integrity Continuing Education
Grantors:
Cody Ortmann, Director, Medical Education, Takeda
Alexa Vintimilla, Global Medical Affairs Manager, Jazz Pharmaceuticals
Deborah Moonan, Director, MEGO, AstraZeneca
3 PM ET
I Know the Answer, But What’s the Question?
Session Sponsored by PlatformQ

The collection and analysis of outcomes data has undoubtedly become one of the most important components of the CME enterprise (just look at our archives). But one of the nagging and oft-ignored problems comes during the development of the actual materials by which outcomes will be measured. There are many options available – formative assessments, qualitative surveys, quantitative evaluations, and others. How do you choose the right approach for your specific initiative and then go about putting the outcomes plan successfully into action? This session will give an overview of the pros and cons of each primary outcomes strategy and provide learners with hands-on opportunities to develop materials that can be used to assess their educational activities.
Moderator:
Alexandra Howson, MA, PhD, CHCP, Principal, Thistle Editorial, LLC
Panelists:
Asma M. Ali, PhD, Founder and Principal Consultant, AA & Associates, LLC
Mary Ellen Beliveau, CEO, Knowledge to Practice
Charles Rossi, Annenberg Centre for Health Sciences
Kathleen Donnelly-Bensalah, PhD, Director of Outcomes and Assessment, American College of Cardiology
4 PM ET
CME Pop Trivia II
We’re getting the band back together! We had so much fun the first time around that we asked the same quartet of quite qualified Questionmasters to join us again for another four rounds of CME trivia…and a sprinkling of pop culture, too. Which one of the Hemsworth brothers once worked as an Accreditation Specialist for a small medical education company in Arkansas? Did The Smiths write the song How Soon Is Now? in response to a late RFP submission? Who won the 2020 CME Cannonball Run road race from Philadelphia, PA to the Alliance Conference at the San Francisco Marriott? You will have to join us to find out these answers* and more. Note: we will be keeping score.
*These are obviously not real questions, though wouldn’t it be great if they were?
Quizmaster
Derek Warnick, Co-Producer, CMEpalooza
Questionmasters
Tricia Wilson, Educational Activity Manager, Optum Health Education
Scott Gorman, CME Manager, Wills Eye Hospital
Jonathan S. Simmons, ELS, Senior Managing Editor, RedMedEd
